Louis Ignarro, Ph.D - Chairman
Dr. Ignarro is a Nobel Laureate in Medicine and also serves as the Jerome J. Bezler, M.D. Distinguished Professor of Pharmacology in the Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology at the UCLA School of Medicine. He received the Nobel Prize for Medicine or Physiology in 1998. Dr. Ignarro has been at the UCLA School of Medicine since 1985 as a Professor, Acting Chairman and Assistant Dean. Dr. Ignarro has received countless awards for his work in medicine and as a professor. He is also an active participant in numerous scientific and medical associations.
Geoffrey Burnstock, Ph.D., DSc., F.A.A., FMedSci, FRS
One of the world's foremost neuroscientists Dr. Burnstock was named by The Institute of Scientific Information in 2004 as the single most cited international scientist in pharmacology and toxicology during the prior decade. He has been awarded the prestigious Queen's Royal Gold Medal by the Royal Society and the titles of Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, which are among the United Kingdom's highest medical degrees. Professor Burnstock played a major role in the development of arimoclomol.
Robert H. Brown, Jr., M.D., D.Phil.
Dr. Brown is is a Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Day Neuromuscular Laboratory and Muscular Dystrophy Association clinic at the Massachusetts General Hospital. The Day Laboratory for Neuromuscular Research was founded in 1984 by Dr. Brown to investigate neuromuscular diseases. Throughout his career, Dr. Brown has been honored for his exceptional commitment to the fight to cure neuromuscular diseases. These honors include induction into the Institute of Medicine and the American Neurological Association. The Day laboratory has become an internationally recognized center for research and clinical care in neuromuscular diseases. Dr. Brown and his collaborators have made many important contributions to the understanding of the biology of neuromuscular diseases, including identification of several genes involved in familial ALS. The MGH Day Laboratory contributions include investigations of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Miyoshi myopathy, periodic paralysis, and adrenoleukodystrophy (lorenzo's oil disease).
Joseph Rubinfeld, Ph.D.
Dr. Rubinfeld co-founded SuperGen (Nasdaq:SUPG) in 1991. He has served as CEO, President and director of the Company since inception and was Chief Scientific Officer from inception until September 1997. Dr. Rubinfeld was one of the four initial founders of Amgen in 1980 and served as Vice President and Chief of Operations until 1983. From 1987 to 1990, he was a Senior Director at Cetus Corporation. From 1968 to 1980, Dr. Rubinfeld was employed at Bristol-Myers Company International Division in a variety of positions, most recently as Vice President and Director of Research and Development.
Michael R. Hayden, MD, Ph.D. - Dr. Hayden is an award winning, internationally renowned scientist and founder of two successful genomic companies, Xenon Genetics and NeuroVir Therapeutics. He is currently a full professor of Medical Genetics at the University of British Columbia, as well as Director of the Center for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics (CMMT) in Vancouver; the CMMT is a gene research center under UBC's Faculty of Medicine. Author of over 400 peer-reviewed publications and invited submissions, Dr. Hayden focuses his research primarily on genetic diseases, including genetics of lipoprotein disorders, Huntington's disease and predictive medicine.
