  • Steven A. Kriegsman - President and Chief Executive Officer

    Mr. Kriegsman has been Director, President and Chief Executive Officer of CytRx Corporation since July 2002. He previously served as Director and Chairman of Global Genomics from June 2000. Mr. Kriegsman is an inactive Chairman and Founder of Kriegsman Capital Group LLC, a financial advisory firm specializing in the development of alternative sources of equity capital for emerging growth companies in the healthcare industry. He has advised such companies as SuperGen Inc., Closure Medical Corporation, Novoste Corporation, Miravant Medical Technologies, and Maxim Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Kriegsman has a BS degree with honors from New York University in Accounting and completed the Executive Program in Mergers and Acquisitions at New York University, The Management Institute. Mr. Kriegsman was formerly a Certified Public Accountant with KPMG in New York City. He serves as a Director and is the former Chairman of the Audit Committee of Bradley Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He is licensed with the Series 7 and 66. In February 2006, Mr. Kriegsman received the Corporate Philanthropist of the Year Award from the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the ALS Association and in October 2006, he received the Lou Gehrig Memorial Corporate Award from the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Mr. Kriegsman has been active in various charitable organizations including the Biotechnology Industry Organization, the ALS Association, the Los Angeles Venture Association, the Southern California Biomedical Council, the New York University Club, the American Association of Dance Companies, and the Palisades-Malibu YMCA.

     

    Jack R. Barber, Ph.D. - Chief Scientific Officer

    Dr. Barber has over 25 years experience in the biomedical industry including 16 years in biopharmaceutical research and development.  Prior to joining CytRx, Dr. Barber spent nine years at Immusol, a biopharmaceutical company based in San Diego , California .  He served as the company's Chief Technical Officer and Vice President of Research and Development, where he invented the company's mRNA inactivation technology for drug target discovery and validation, and led a multifunctional department of over 70 people.  Dr. Barber also played a major role in growing the company from a capitalization of $6 million in 1994 to $305 million in 2003. Before working at Immusol, Dr. Barber spent seven years in various management positions at Viagene, which was acquired by Chiron.  At Viagene, Dr. Barber most recently served as Associate Director of Oncology, researching and developing gene therapy vaccines for the treatment of HIV and various cancers.  Dr. Barber received both his B.S. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles. He also carried out his post-doctoral fellowship at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California.

     

    Mitchell Fogelman - Chief Financial Officer

    Mr. Fogelman has more than 30 years of financial and accounting experience.  During the past 25 years, he served with International Aluminum Corporation, a former NYSE-traded, $300 million manufacturer of industrial products, which was taken private in early 2007.  Most recently, he served as International Aluminum Corporation’s Senior Vice President-Finance and Administration, Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Secretary, where he worked with senior management to develop and execute a plan to improve the financial positioning of the company in an adverse business environment and to execute the sale of the company with a focus on maximizing shareholder value.  Mr. Fogelman previously served as Senior Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Los Angeles, CA. Mr. Fogelman received an M.B.A. and B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and is a certified public accountant in the State of California. 

     

    Shi Chung Ng, Ph.D. - Senior Vice President of Research and Development

    Dr. Ng has more than 20 years of drug discovery research experience in the biomedical industry. Prior to joining CytRx, he served as Vice President, Molecular Oncology at Ligand Pharmaceuticals, heading the oncology discovery and new product support efforts.  Prior to that, he was Vice President, Drug Discovery Biology and Preclinical Development at Arqule Inc.  He previously served in various senior research leadership capacities at Abbott Laboratories; as Associate Director, Scientific Affairs at Pfizer International; and as Senior Research Investigator at Bristol-Meyers Squibb Corporation. Dr. Ng has received numerous awards and honors, and has authored more than 80 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, and is co-inventor on 10 patent applications.  Dr. Ng received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Purdue University and received his B.S. from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He also carried out his post-doctoral fellowship at Howard Hughes Medical Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

     

    Benjamin S. Levin - General Counsel, Vice President of Legal Affairs and Corporate Secretary

    Until 2004, Mr. Levin practiced at O'Melveny & Myers LLP in Los Angeles as a transactional attorney.  He worked in a wide variety of disciplines including mergers and acquisitions, public and private securities offerings, corporate governance and SEC reporting and disclosure.   Mr. Levin graduated from Stanford Law School with distinction, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a S.B. in Economics.

     

    Scott Wieland, Ph.D. - Vice President, Clinical and Regulatory Affairs

    Prior to joining CytRx, Dr. Wieland was Vice President of Drug Development and Regulatory Affairs, with clinical and regulatory oversight of a Alzheimer's disease development program.  His fifteen years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry has provided Scott a balanced approached to developing products for the market place.  His experience ranges across all aspects of drug development with a focus on neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and stroke. Scott received a M.A. and Ph.D. in biopsychology from the University of Arizona and a M.B.A. from Webster University.

     

    John C. Caloz - Chief Accounting Officer

    Mr. Caloz has an accomplished history of providing senior financial leadership in the life sciences sector, serving most recently as CFO for IRIS International Inc. (NASDAQ:IRIS), a medical device manufacturer from 2001 to 2004. Before joining IRIS, he was CFO at Synarc, Inc., a startup medical imaging services company with operations in the U.S. and Europe. From 1993 to 1999, he was SVP, Finance and CFOof Phoenix International Life Sciences Inc., a TSX and NASDAQ listed CRO that was acquired by MDS Inc. (TSX:MDS; NYSE:MDZ) in 1999. Mr. Caloz, a Chartered Accountant, holds a B.A. in Accounting from York University, Toronto, ON.

     

    David J. Haen - Vice President, Business Development
    Graduated Cum Laude from Loyola Marymount University in Business and Communications. Mr. Haen assists in negotiating strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, and in-licensing and out-licensing of product opportunities.
